MEXICO CITY (AP) — The U.S. Treasury Department says it is levying financial sanctions against the father-in-law of Joaquin Guzman, who is Mexico's most wanted man.

The department's Office of Foreign Assets Control says in a statement Wednesday that it has designated Ines Coronel Barreras under the U.S. Kingpin Act. A listing bars U.S. citizens from having business transactions with that person and allows authorities to freeze their assets in the United States.

Coronel is the father of Guzman's third wife.

The department says Coronel "plays a key role" in the Sinaloa drug cartel, which is led by Guzman, also known as "El Chapo."

It also added Damaso Lopez Nunez to the list. The department says Lopez is Guzman's right hand and helped him escape from a Mexican prison in 2001.
