An aide to Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., has been arrested after police accused him of stealing at the U.S. Capitol.

Javier Sanchez, 37, of Virginia, was arrested on Thursday after police investigated a string of thefts at the Rayburn House Office Building, where Bachmann, a Minnesota Republican, has her congressional office. His arrest wasn’t made public until late Monday, when Capitol Police responded to a request from the media.

Sanchez was charged with “theft II,” which means the value of the stolen goods is less than $1,000. Police didn’t say how many counts he was charged with, and an arrest report wasn’t made public.

Bachmann spokesman Dan Kotman on Tuesday said Sanchez no longer works for the lawmaker, who ran for the GOP’s presidential nomination in 2012. He declined to comment further, referring inquiries to the Capitol Police.
