Michigan's Governor Rick Snyder said that Same-sex marriages performed last week after a federal judge overturned Michigan's ban on gay marriage were valid, but the benefits conferred have been suspended because the ruling has been stayed pending appeal. Clerks in four Michigan counties issued hundreds of marriage licenses to same-sex couples on Saturday after a federal judge in Detroit ruled that the state's ban on gay marriage adopted by voters in 2004 violated the U.S. constitution.
