NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a total of $600,000 to two North Dakota communities as part of a nationwide program to assess, cleanup and redevelop contaminated properties.
The city of New Rockford will receive a $200,000 EPA brownfields site grant to clean up the New Rockford City Hospital site contaminated with inorganic contaminants.
The city of Minot is receiving $400,000 in assessment grants to focus on the downtown redevelopment area affected by flooding in 2011 and other flooded locations adjacent to the Souris River. One $200,000 grant will allow for an assessment for hazardous substances and another $200,000 grant will look at petroleum.
The grants are part of $62.5 million awarded nationwide to 240 recipients.
