Miss Beazley 'lost' after Barney Bush's death

According to former first lady Laura Bush, Miss Beazley, President George W. Bush's other first pooch, seems to be the most distraught over Scottish Terrier Barney's recent passing. "Miss Beazley really seems to be sad -- Barney's partner, Barney's pal -- she seems a little lost looking for Barney," Bush told Yeas & Nays, before delivering a keynote at Komen for the Cure's Global Women's Cancer Summit Monday. "But I'll have to say Bob, our cat, doesn't seem to notice."

The former FLOTUS gave a full family update during her appearance in D.C. Even though the family has been bummed over 12-year-old Barney's death to lymphoma, they're excited about welcoming a first grandchild to the world. "As we get closer, we'll probably fix up a little nursery at our house so Jenna can come and bring the baby. And, I'll go to New York, where Jenna lives, and help her out," Bush said, adding that the baby's gender will be a "surprise."

Laura Bush also discussed her daughters' careers -- one in health care, one in media. "Jenna is working as a contributing correspondent to NBC's 'Today Show,' " Bush noted. "George says she's just continuing the Bush family tradition of warm relations with the media," she said laughing. "Too bad that has to be a joke."

As for the elder Bushes, former President George H.W. Bush is home and out of the hospital. "We got the word that he's already been out to dinner in Houston so I think he's back in good shape," Bush said. And she and the president are readying for his presidential library to be opened in Dallas in April.

Bush was chosen as a speaker Monday because the George W. Bush Institute has partnered with Komen to create a Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon initiative to screen women for breast and cervical cancer in sub-Saharan Africa.
