A dog missing from the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office was found Sunday afternoon.

The dog, a roughly 85-pound German shepherd named Bronco, was found near Ivandale Road outside Purcellville after several residents called to say they had seen the dog on a nearby road, officials said. The animal was healthy but was taken to a vet as a precaution, police said.

Bronco escaped from a groomer Friday afternoon in Leesburg, about seven miles from where he was found.

"We appreciate the outpouring of support in bringing Bronco back to his handler," Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman said in a statement. "The efforts of residents spreading the word through social media and offering to help in the search was overwhelming and we are grateful for those residents who kept an eye out for Bronco and helped bring him home."
