A missing University of Maryland student was found dead inside his vehicle on Friday evening, and police are investigating the death as a suicide, authorities announced.

Authorities had been searching for 20-year-old David Johnathan Scherr for 10 days. Scherr was last seen on the College Park campus on Dec. 19, but had not been in contact with friends or family since. Police said they were concerned because Scherr may not have access to medicine he took for depression.

Scherr was found at about 10 p.m. inside his black 2013 Ford Escape, parked in a lot near the intersection of Route 197 and Route 450 in Bowie, according to police.
