Mitt Romney video reminds voters of Obama’s promise to ‘heal’ the planet

In a new video released ahead of tonight’s foreign policy debate, Mitt Romney’s campaign reminds voters of then-Sen. Barack Obama’s outlandish prediction that future generations of Americans would regard his victory in the 2008 Democratic Primary as “the moment when the planet began to heal.”

“Because if we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless,” Obama said in 2008. “This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.”

Romney chose to interpret that prediction in light of Obama’s foreign policy, though Obama seemed to be talking about his power to affect the planet through environmental policies (he also predicted that the oceans would begin to recede).

It features David Gregory of Meet the Press reporting on “new tensions between the United States and Israel,” followed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warning that “Iran with nuclear weapons would mean that the kind of fanaticism that you see storming your embassies would have a nuclear weapon.”

Using Syria as to segue from the Middle East to Russia — MSNBC’s Chuck Todd is featured saying “Russia’s standing in the way of doing anything in Syria. Okay? That’s a foreign policy failure on the President’s part.” — the Romney campaign warns voters that they can’t know what Obama will do after November, with respect to Russia.

As Obama told Russian President Dmitri Mevdedev: “After my election I have more flexibility.”
