A "molotov cocktail" was thrown at Ballston Common Mall's food court during lunchtime Thursday, police said, although no one was hurt as the device never caught fire.

At about 12:10 p.m., authorities got a call about a lit bottle being thrown from the mall's top level to its food court.

The 40-ounce bottle had a fuse attached and was filled with a substance believed to be gasoline. It shattered, but there was no explosion or fire, according to the Arlington County Police Department. No one reported being injured.

The suspect is described as a black male with curly hair who was wearing a gray jacket. Police took an individual matching the suspect description into custody and were interviewing him, but he had not been arrested as of late Thursday afternoon, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said,

Three additional similar bottles were found on the mall's second level, police said.
