Police in Montgomery County issued nearly 140 traffic citations Friday night during a campaign to enforce the nighttime use of seat belts.
From about 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Friday, officers stationed themselves at entrance and exit ramps of Interstate 270 and the Capital Beltway. Officers were looking for motorists who weren't using their seat belt and committing other traffic violations, Montgomery County police said.
Officers issued 139 traffic citations, including 44 seat belt citations and four driving under the influence arrests. They also made two criminal arrests and issued 25 equipment repair orders and 59 warnings, police said.
Officers with the Montgomery County, Gaithersburg and Rockville police departments participated in the initiative.
