A Montgomery County music teacher has been charged with possession of child pornography.

Baltimore County police say Lawrence Joynes, 54, of Baltimore County, has been charged because of material found on a computer in his Dundalk home.

Joynes is a music teacher at New Hampshire Estates Elementary School in Silver Spring, and has been with MCPS for 27 years. He has been placed on administrative leave.

School officials sent a letter home with students on Friday, and sent a recorded phone call home to parents.

Joynes is currently in the Baltimore County Detention Center on $1 million bail.
