SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Highway Patrol officers will be out in force on New Year's Eve to catch and prevent drunk driving.
State officials say there will be 20 additional DUI patrol shifts Monday night by highway patrol officers. It is part of a statewide blitz by police to reduce drunk driving on one of the biggest party nights of the year.
The New Car Dealers of Utah have donated $5,000 to pay for the additional patrols.
Utah Highway Patrol officials are urging people to plan a ride home if they are going to be drinking alcohol.
