More than 100,000 Washington-area residents are without power Tuesday morning after Hurricane Sandy made landfall. Still, there are far fewer customers without power now than there were as a result of the derecho a few months ago.

About 9:14 a.m. Tuesday, Pepco was reported power outages for 22,121 customers, most of them in Montgomery County.

As of shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dominion Power was reporting 103,304 customers without power in the Northern Virginia area.

Two days after an intense storm on June 29, more than 851,000 people in the region still lacked power.
