CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) — Mosaic Potash will permanently halt production of muriate of potash at its Carlsbad facility.
The Carlsbad Current-Argus reports (http://goo.gl/h6vgTr) that the production plans were outlined in a recent regulatory filing and a company executive said Wednesday it also will cut its workforce.
General Manager Don Purvis said the move away from muriate was a corporate decision involving a product that makes up about 30 percent of production at the Carlsbad facility.
That means the company also needs to cut roughly one-third of the workforce, or 185 people.
Purvis says employees were told of the coming changes on Wednesday.
He says the company plans to operate at full capacity until the end of December.
