Most Wanted: Fugitive continues violent ways, deputies say

U.S. Marshals deputies are looking for a man accused of committing two robberies, one while armed, while he was released from jail on a carjacking charge.

Stephen Nesbitt, 20, is wanted in Prince George's County on three separate warrants. Members of the Capital Area Regional Area Fugitive Task Force are asking the public for information that can lead to his arrest before there are more victims.

"Nesbitt is clearly a dangerous person," said Supervisory Inspector Matt Burke. "He was given a chance to stay out of jail while waiting for his carjacking trial and apparently used this opportunity to continue to threaten and rob the public."

In May, Nesbitt was arrested and released on carjacking charges but failed to show up to court in September. Since his release, Nesbitt has been charged in two additional robberies, one in which he's accused of using a rifle or shotgun.

Nesbitt, who is listed as 5-foot-6 and 135 pounds, is known to hang out in Capitol Heights and Northeast Washington.

In the past three weeks, The Washington Examiner and its readers have been credited for the apprehension of two fugitives. A 79-year-old fugitive sex offender and armed robber turned himself in after seeing his profile in The Examiner, and a reader's tip led to the arrest of a convicted kidnapper at a concert in Seat Pleasant.

Since 2008, the "Most Wanted" feature has led directly to the capture or surrender of 48 fugitives. At least eight taken into custody were wanted in a killing or had previously been convicted of a homicide.
