Fairfax County police are working with law enforcement agencies across the country to find 5-year-old Cameron Serafin.

The young Fairfax County boy spends alternating weeks living with his mother and with his father. But on April 7, Cameron wasn't returned to his father as he should have been, police said.

On Thursday, Cameron and his mother, 32-year-old Rebecca Serafin, were seen at an airport in Birmingham, Ala., leading police to obtain a warrant charging the mother with felony parental abduction. The mom and son then flew to Las Vegas and were seen at an airport there Thursday night. Police said the pair is possibly headed to Los Angeles.

Rebecca Serafin had altered the appearance of herself and her son in an apparent effort to avoid being found, police said. The modified appearances are seen in photos that police have released.

Cameron is described as 3 feet 5 inches tall and about 40 pounds. His mother is about 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs between 120 and 130 pounds. Both mother and son may be using the last name "Love."

Police are hoping to get the word out about the case on social media, using the hashtag #findcameron.
