CONVENT, La. (AP) — The owners of a Convent refinery say a worker trying to disassemble a scaffold apparently started a fire that damaged a diesel production unit on Feb. 24.

Motiva Enterprises LLC told the state Department of Environmental Quality that the worker's hammer missed the scaffold and broke a half-inch-wide tube on the production unit.

Refinery spokesman Kevin Hardy Jr. tells The Advocate (http://bit.ly/1fc7FEi) that repairs on the damaged unit are complete.

The preliminary report says the accident released hydrogen gas and diesel-range hydrocarbons.

It says the fire was out in just under an hour.

The Houston-based company says it is continuing to investigate the accident at the 750-acre complex in St. James Parish.
