A motorcyclist died after a collision with a car in Gaithersburg, police said.

About 1:45 p.m. Monday, emergency workers went to the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Longdraft Road.

A 1998 BMW 528i was traveling southbound on Great Seneca Highway, and a 2001 Suzuki SV650s motorcycle was traveling on the road in the opposite direction. The BMW tried to make a left hand turn on to Longdraft Road in front of the motorcycle, and the motorcycle collided with the car's passenger side door, according to Montgomery County police.

The Suzuki's operator, 24-year-old Michael George Balcom, of Germantown, was thrown from the motorcycle. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

The BMW's driver has been identified as 67-year-old Toney Williams Moses of Gaithersburg. Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
