A 68-year-old motorcyclist was killed Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 near the Fairfax County Parkway.

The crash happened about 4:30 a.m. in the rain. Virginia State Police say Timothy E. Halpin lost control of his 2001 BMW motorcycle while driving north in the left lane of I-95.

The bike skidded onto the highway's left shoulder, while Halpin slid off his motorcycle into the path of a tractor trailer. Halpin was struck by a passing tractor-trailer, and driver did not stop after the collision. The truck driver driver may not have known the vehicle had struck Halpin.

Police were unable to get a description of the tractor-trailer, and are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 703-803-0026.
