In 2004, Tom Hanks and longtime friend/frequent collaborator Steven Spielberg teamed up for "The Terminal," a story about a man trapped in an airport after his country falls into a civil war. Again as improbable as it is for a man to literally be living in an airport for an extended period of time...this too is based on actual events. Mehran Karimi Nasseri, a Iranian refugee, was living in Paris's Charles de Gaulle Airport in 1988 until 2006. Nasseri attempted to travel to England from Belgium through France, but he lost his ID papers along the way and got stuck. What followed was a nearly 20 year struggle for his identity which culminated in the French government eventually relenting and agreeing to give him the ability live in their country. Still he refused to leave and remained in the airport until he needed hospitalization for undisclosed causes. After his release, he did stay in the country where he still reportedly lives.
