After Gov. Bob McDonnell spoke at the Republican National Convention today, MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry reminded the audience of the bill pushed by Republicans in Virginia to require an ultrasound before an abortion.

“I think folks have got to be a little bit nervous about standing next to a Governor who represents a vision of small government that is small enough to put on the end of a transvaginal probe,” she said, as host Rachel Maddow stifled a snicker in the background.

In February 2012, Liberals widely mocked the ultrasound requirement, comparing it to rape.

McDonnell responded to the hysteria by issuing a statement on the bill, insisting that as a pro-life governor, he supported the bill, but only if it was amended to exclude “mandatory vaginal ultrasounds.”
