STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi State University officials say a preliminary investigation found that no secure information was lost to a hacker who targeted the school's computers.

A Brazilian computer hacker claimed Wednesday to have accessed the usernames, actual names and passwords of 929 students.

But MSU Chief Information Officer Mike Rackley says in a statement that most of the information obtained by the hacker is available from existing public university directories.

According to a posting on the website HackRead.com, the hacker had claimed to have obtained admission details, usernames, addresses, emails and encrypted passwords of university's staff and students.

As a precaution, MSU says it's telling users who may be affected to change their account passwords.
