President Obama this morning asked for Americans to press Congress to pass an extension of middle class tax cuts – and letting tax cuts for the wealthy expire.

“I can only do this with the help of the American people, Obama said. “Tweet using the hashtag #my2k, or email, or post it on a member of Congress’s Facebook wall.”

The message “my2k” refers to the estimated $2000 tax hike for the middle class, should Congress let the tax rates expire at the end of the year.

Obama added that Congress could pass the bill by tomorrow, but added that “optimistically I don’t think we’re going to get it done tomorrow.”
