New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has given $250,000 to the campaign for same-sex marriage in Maryland, the campaign announced Friday.

The donation from the billionaire mayor is the largest the campaign to legalize same-sex marriage has received from an individual, The New York Times reported. The campaign's full list of donations will be made available Friday evening, according to Marylanders for Marriage Equality campaign manager Josh Levin.

In a note on the campaign's website, Bloomberg notes his ties to Maryland as a graduate of Johns Hopkins University.

"So when Gov. [Martin] O'Malley asked me to support Question 6, I didn't hesitate," Bloomberg wrote.

Bloomberg is the latest in a long line of high-profile supporters pitching in to pass Maryland's marriage ballot measure. Others include singer Melissa Etheridge, actress Susan Sarandon and Maryland native and actor Edward Norton.
