CINCINNATI (AP) — Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman campaigned for President Barack Obama at a southwest Ohio rally aimed at showcasing the administration's policies that supporters say benefit women.

Portman and former Ohio first lady Frances Strickland were among the speakers Wednesday at an Obama campaign event held at the Cincinnati Museum Center.

Portman told the audience in the presidential battleground state that she wants her son to grow up in a country that Obama's vision will shape. She described that vision as friendly to the middle class.

The actress also praised the president's health care plan for covering preventative treatments such as mammograms.

Obama carried Hamilton County, home to Cincinnati, in 2008 as the first Democratic presidential candidate to do so since 1964.
