LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Nebraska lawmakers will discuss a bill that would provide income tax credits for Nebraskans caring for the elderly.
The Legislature's Revenue Committee will hear testimony on Friday from aging advocates who want the state to offer financial relief to caregivers.
Sen. Kate Bolz of Lincoln says she proposed the bill after hearing from several constituents who care for an older loved one.
The bill would give caregivers a $500 annual tax credit, starting in 2013, for caring for a disabled person over the age of 65. Caregivers would have to have an income of less than or equal to 250 percent of the federal poverty level.
