Based on the platform of its phenomenal S 1000 RR superbike, BMW has developed a new naked with a claimed 160 hp and a weight of 456 pounds. BMW claims the output of its superbike motor has been tuned to “optimize low to mid-range performance.” Maximum rpm has been reduced by roughly 2,000, and the maximum horsepower and torque peaks have been brought down as well. Torque output below 7,500 rpm is significantly higher than achieved by the pure superbike S 1000 RR engine. The engine modifications performed by BMW to achieve this are described in the press release below, along with descriptions of the other features and benefits of this new model.
