New publisher named for The Brownsville Herald

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Veteran publishing executive Frank Escobedo has been named the new publisher of The Brownsville Herald and its related digital and Spanish-language outlets.

Herald-owner AIM Media Texas said Friday that the appointment is effective immediately as incumbent publisher Daniel Cavazos steps down.

The graduate of Texas A&I University, which is now Texas A&M University at Kingsville, returns to the region after serving as general manager of Hispanic Media for the Freedom Communications Southern California Region. Before Freedom bought the Riverside (Calif.) Press-Enterprise from the A.H. Belo Corp., Escobedo was general manager of Hispanic Media at the Press-Enterprise and publisher of its Spanish-language sibling La Prensa.

Early in his career, Escobedo rose at the Laredo Morning Times from ad account executive in 1984 to vice president and general manager by 2004.
