PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. (AP) — State police have charged a 41-year-old man with stealing more than $25,000 from a firefighters' union in the Hudson Valley.

Troopers say they arrested former Arlington firefighter Keith Rutbell of the town of Pleasant Valley on Monday and charged him with grand larceny.

Police began their investigation after the Arlington Professional Firefighters' Association reported last month that funds were missing from the union's accounts.

Investigators say Rutbell was serving as the union's treasurer when he stole the money. He served in the position for the last 15 years. Rutbell was a firefighter for 17 years in Arlington, near Poughkeepsie.

Rutbell is being held in the Dutchess County Jail on $10,000 bail. He's scheduled to appear in Pleasant Valley Town Court Tuesday evening. It couldn't be determined if he has a lawyer.
