News Summary: EBay posts higher 3Q earnings

STILL GROWING: EBay Inc.'s net income grew 22 percent in the third quarter thanks to higher revenue at its PayPal payments service and the marketplaces business that includes eBay.com.

2012 OUTLOOK HIGHER: EBay raised its full-year guidance slightly and CEO John Donahoe expressed cautious optimism about the upcoming holiday shopping season.

THE NUMBERS: The online commerce company earned $597 million, or 45 cents per share, in the July-September period. That's up from $491 million, or 37 cents per share, a year earlier. Adjusted earnings were 55 cents per share, a penny ahead of expectations. Revenue grew 15 percent to $3.4 billion.
