PAIN IN GREECE: Unemployment in Greece rose to a record 27 percent in November as a result of the financial crisis and austerity measures. The country's economic situation will leave nearly a third of the population in poverty by the end of the year, according to one survey.
YOUTH AT RISK: Worst affected are the young, with nearly 62 percent of people ages 15-24 without a job.
HOW THIS HAPPENED: Greece is in its sixth year of recession, and has been relying for nearly three years on international rescue loans to keep it afloat. In return for the bailout, the government has slashed spending and raised taxes, hammering the economy.
