CLOSED FOR BUSINESS: The New York Stock Exchange and other U.S. financial markets are shutting down Monday as Hurricane Sandy bears down on New York.

ONCE IN A GENERATION: The NYSE last suspended physical trading operations because of the weather on Sept. 27, 1985, because of Hurricane Gloria.

WHAT'S NEXT: Operators say markets might be closed Tuesday "pending confirmation."
