The Ohio Senate has called foul on a bill that would proclaimed Ohio-made Wilson footballs the state's official football.

A Wilson factory in Ada in northwest Ohio supplies NFL footballs, including those that have been used in every Super Bowl.

Republican State Sen. Cliff Hite of Findlay wanted the honor for Wilson, but his bill was yanked Wednesday before it could go before a Senate hearing.

Ohio has named tomato juice its official beverage, has made the cardinal its official bird and has several other, similar designations. But Hite tells The (Toledo) Blade (http://bit.ly/zm5Nxq ) his proposal has "been fumbled" because the Senate doesn't like naming individual companies as the official anything.
