District of Columbia officials say they will ask the Officer of the Inspector General to investigate why the city's housing agency spent millions on a plan to renovate vacant apartment buildings into low-income housing for men.
The nonprofit organization Peaceoholics proposed building the housing for at-risk men in 2008 but no longer owns the three apartment complexes. The buildings were purchased with money from the city's Department of Housing and Community Development.
Mayor Vincent Gray tells The Washington Post that his administration must take steps to ensure that programs like these do what they're designed to do (http://wapo.st/wgcT68 ).
D.C. Councilmen Jim Graham, who is among those calling for an investigation, says he is still confused about what happened to at least $1 million in city funds.
