A Rhode Island police officer is seeking a new trial after he was convicted last week of kicking a handcuffed woman in the head outside a casino.
An attorney for Officer Edward Krawetz tells WPRI-TV (http://bit.ly/yQSMA8 ) that he has filed a motion for a new trial and will talk to Krawetz about appealing the verdict.
The 47-year-old officer was convicted of felony battery with a dangerous weapon for kicking 44-year-old Donna Levesque in the head outside the Twin River Casino in Lincoln in 2009. The assault was caught by a surveillance camera and happened as Levesque sat on a curb waiting for a patrol car to pick her up for booking on a disorderly conduct charge.
It's the second assault conviction for Krawetz, who faces possible dismissal from the force.
