Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott was listed on a website as supporting a national lobbying effort to legalize same-sex marriage even though he hasn't signed onto the effort.
Sinnott's assistant, Laura Schaaf, says someone entered his name on the Mayors for the Freedom to Marry website without his permission. Schaaf says Sinnott has yet to review the group's information and hasn't decided whether to sign on.
Jo Deutsch, the federal director for Freedom to Marry, tells the Erie Times-News (http://bit.ly/yfJ2tj ) that the group had 80 confirmed supporters when it began Jan. 20 and that 20 to 25 new mayors had apparently "signed on" by that night.
But the group learned some of those mayors had not signed on personally, so now the group is contacting the mayors personally before adding their name to the list.
