A new enrollment system designed to make it easier for parents in New Orleans to sign up their children for public schools launches next week. And the state agency that runs most of those schools is holding a meeting Thursday to educate parents about the process.
The new process allows parents to fill out one application in which they will list the schools they would like their children to attend in order of preference.
Thursday night's event is billed as a "citywide" meeting during which the new enrollment process will be one of the topics discussed. Other meetings will be held in various neighborhoods in the coming months by the Louisiana Recovery School District, which took over most New Orleans public schools after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005.
