The Senate Friday passed a weeklong measure to keep the government operating, clearing the measure for President Trump’s signature and providing additional time for lawmakers to hash out a deal on another round of coronavirus aid.
Lawmakers approved the bill by voice vote. The House passed the legislation earlier this week.
Partisan differences have so far blocked a measure to fund the government through 2021.
The stopgap bill means both the House and Senate will have to return next week to continue negotiations.
The two parties are also trying to hammer out a measure that would provide a new round of coronavirus relief aid.
Talks have yet to produce a deal based on a $908 billion plan authored by a bipartisan group of House and Senate lawmakers.
“We’re still working on it,” Sen. Joe Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat, told reporters in the Capitol on Friday.
