A former District of Columbia mayoral candidate is set for trial on a charge of driving without a valid license.
Sulaimon Brown's trial on the traffic charge is scheduled for Monday morning in D.C. Superior Court.
Brown was arrested last September. His Maryland driver's license had been suspended over an unpaid parking ticket. But his attorney has claimed Brown was treated unfairly because his license was suspended on July 4, when motor vehicle departments in Maryland and the district were closed.
A separate charge of failure to obey stemming from his arrest was dropped.
Brown has accused aides to Mayor Vincent Gray of paying him and promising him a job during last year's campaign to disparage then-Mayor Adrian Fenty. Federal authorities are investigating those claims.
