D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson said Monday he expects limited revisions to the District's strict gun laws in the wake of the massacre in Newtown, Conn.
"There is just no change that jumps out at this time," Mendelson told reporters. "As we learn more about the Connecticut situation, maybe there will be something that we ought to address, but I don't think so."
The District's firearms laws are among the nation's most stringent, and it is the only state or territory in the United States that has an outright ban on concealed carry. Last week, a federal appeals court in Chicago struck down such a restriction in Illinois.
Mendelson's comments came one day after President Obama indicated he would push for tightened gun laws nationwide.
"We can't tolerate this anymore. These tragedies must end," Obama said at a vigil in Connecticut. "And to end them, we must change."
