Maybe the best thing said about the upcoming Major League Baseball postseason is that there is no perfect team. Yes, even the vaunted Yankees have some weaknesses and those only are magnified during a best-of-five series. Every team has issues. The Red Sox, for instance, have a dilemma at catcher.
“I would be surprised if [Jason] Varitek catches at all,” said TBS analyst Dennis Eckersley. “I tend to think that he won’t because their best lineup is without him in it.”

Ouch. Harsh words for “The Captain.” But Boston has a better option in Victor Martinez. The Phillies, meanwhile, have a problem in the back of their bullpen. Closer Brad Lidge — perfect last year — can’t be counted on after a disastrous 2009.
“To me, it’s not so much his violent delivery, it’s the wildness of it,” Eckersley said. “It’s incredible that he had that run (in 2008) to begin with when he throws pitches out of the strike zone … If I had been watching the Phillies all year long, I’d be scared to death.”
The Dodgers haven’t had that problem. Their bullpen has been excellent much of the year. Except that manager Joe Torre — and stop us if you’ve heard this before — may have gone to his relievers a little too much.
“They over-used their bullpen and it’s coming back to haunt them now,” said TBS analyst Ron Darling. “The only National League team that’s feeling good about themselves is the Cardinals.”
