QUONSET, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Lincoln Chafee and the Quonset Development Corp. have announced approval of a 25-year lease deal with food-aid nonprofit Edesia.
The announcement Tuesday said Edesia plans a new facility on a 10-acre parcel at the Quonset Business Park. It could be up to 85,000 square feet and house between 75 and 100 employees. The facility could be expanded another 25,000 square feet.
The lease includes the QDC's standard 16 percent rent discount for a 25-year lease, and other standard incentives for job creation and total payroll.
Chafee praised Edesia's mission to combat worldwide childhood malnutrition. He said the state is committed to helping it grow.
Executive director Navyn Salem said Edesia is happy for a ready site to make its move from Providence and expand services to partners including UNICEF, the World Food Programme and USAID/USDA.
