NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Norfolk Southern railroad will release its second-quarter earnings report Wednesday morning.
Investors will be looking to see how well the railroad recovered from the severe cold that slowed traffic in the first three months of the year and whether coal demand improved since last year.
Analysts surveyed by FactSet expect Norfolk Southern to report earnings per share of $1.72 on $3.03 billion revenue.
Last year, the Norfolk, Virginia-based railroad reported $465 million net income, or $1.46 per share, on $2.8 billion revenue.
Norfolk Southern said Tuesday it will raise its quarterly dividend to 57 cents from 54 cents.
Norfolk Southern operates about 20,000 miles of track in 22 states and the District of Columbia.
Omaha, Nebraska-based Union Pacific releases its earnings report Thursday.
