DICKINSON, Texas (AP) — A Chamber of Commerce in Southeast Texas that operated for more than 65 years has closed due to lack of funds.
A letter Tuesday on the website of the North Galveston County Chamber of Commerce thanks members for their support. The letter announces the group has dissolved for financial reasons.
Frank Mistretta, the defunct chamber's chairman, told the Galveston County Daily News (http://bit.ly/1ns8UhM ) that the efforts made to spur profitability have failed.
Mistretta says board members last Thursday considered options to stay open but in the end had to suspend operations.
The Chamber of Commerce serving Dickinson, Kemah (KEE'-muh), Clear Lake Shores and League City had about 200 members.
Mistretta says the group will honor four scholarships totaling about $5,000 awarded to students still in college.
