ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The New York Power Authority is giving a northern New York university $2.2 million to improve the energy efficiency of a building that will become a new research center.

The authority says the money will be spent on Clarkson University's Old Main Building in downtown Potsdam as part of a renovation set to begin next year.

The work will create a "green" building for the Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries, which studies changes in river environments. The institute also has operations in the Hudson Valley city of Beacon.
