Mary Pat Seurkamp has overseen diversification and expansion at the nation's first Catholic women's college to award baccalaureate degrees for 15 years.
During Seurkamp's tenure, the school established its first doctoral program and launched a college of pharmacy. It is also now open to men older than 22.
Seurkamp tells the Baltimore Sun (http://bsun.md/NK9ye0) that she's confident in the future of single-sex education at Notre Dame, but that the school will have to be comfortable being small in that area.
The next president, James Conneely, will be the first man to lead Notre Dame. The school was founded in Baltimore in 1895 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
