OSWEGO, N.Y. (AP) — A central New York college says it's naming a new science building after a former professor whose $5 million gift to the school will be used to create an endowment, also in his name.

SUNY Oswego says "The Richard S. Shineman Center for Science, Engineering and Innovation" is being built now and is set to open next year.

Shineman was a chemistry professor who retired in 1988. He died in 2010.

His bequest to the school will be used to endow a chair in chemistry in his name and support the science program and faculty research.
