HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (AP) — The Suffolk County executive has signed two bills aimed at limiting energy drinks for minors.
Suffolk plans to ban the sale or distribution of energy drinks to people under 18 at county parks and beaches. It also will prohibit the mailing of free samples and coupons to minors.
According to Newsday (http://bit.ly/15s2N9G ), opponents have said they may sue to block next month's expected enactment of the laws.
The American Beverage Association said it was disappointed that County Executive Steve Bellone signed the measures on Friday.
The beverage industry says the measures unfairly target safe products that have less caffeine than similar sized coffees.
