ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York's state parks department has launched a smartphone application designed to help people get information about recreation sites and events.

The department says the free app called "Oh, Ranger! NY State Parks" is available now for the iPhone and will be soon for Android devices.

Information is available for more than 200 state parks, historic sites, golf courses, campgrounds and nature centers. That includes services, directions and links to important numbers.

Among the functions is a ZIP code search for facilities.

The app is available on iTunes and the parks department website.
