During his press conference today, President Obama signaled that gun organizations such as the National Rifle Association were "ginning up fear" to sell more guns.

"I think that we've seen for some time now that those who oppose any common sense gun control or gun safety measures have a pretty effective way of ginning up fear on the part of gun owners that somehow the federal government is about to take all your guns away," Obama asserted, without directly mentioning the National Rifle Association. "There's probably an economic element to that -- it obviously is good for business."

The NRA has repeatedly said that they oppose any gun restriction measures especially the measures proposed by Obama and Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Obama added that he was willing to take steps to "reduce gun violence" through executive action. "I'm confident that there are some steps we can take that don't require legislation and that are within my authority as president," he asserted.

Obama explained that "responsible" gun owners didn't have anything to worry about.

"As I said, its a fear that's fanned," Obama said.
